Match report:

A great game of cricket which was tight beyond anyone's expectations especially at half-time when South had posted a score of 219, having declared 10 over’s before the end of their allotted 50 over’s.  West, shrewdly took their additional 10 over’s and their batting performance belied their reputation for being bowled out easily, and they were only just beaten when they were bowled out for 197 in the 52nd over.

This was down to an outstanding innings by David Ackford whose 71 saw his team up to a score of 131 for 4 and gave them a real chance of winning the game.  Charlie O'Higgins carried on where David had left off and his 30 was a commendable effort as the pressure from South increased.  At 195 for six and needing less than three runs an over for victory the odds swung in favour of West.  But Barr and Higgs and the fielding and determination of the South team meant that it was not to be.  As South have shown in the previous two matches, this team does not give up easily in the last four wickets fell for two runs.

The South score of 219 was built upon a trademark powerful innings from Ollie Higgs and a disciplined and controlled innings from Danny McKenna who has really developed during this competition.

The result left South unbeaten for the season and champions for 2010.  Congratulations needs to go to the whole team for the determination they have shown in three tight matches, proving that cricket is the most exciting of games and that a match is never won until the final ball is bowled.  Well done to them, and their coaches Alan Boon and Mark Gilmour; a deserved success.
